Madeira Friends started in 2020 as a weekly fitness meetup by the sea. Five years later we run a hub in Funchal Old Town, and a virtual office service for founders who want to be part of it.

We didn't start as a business.
We started in 2020 as a weekly workout by the sea in Funchal. Locals and internationals meeting up around the sea, every week, simply because it felt good.
The community grew. We opened the Madeira Friends Hub — a space to train, to work, to host events, to share meals. Then remote workers and founders arrived in Madeira en masse, and the hub became home to hundreds of them.
Businesses started asking whether they could use the hub address for their companies. A real address, at a real place, with real people receiving the mail. And that's how this virtual office service exists. It's not a product — it's the natural extension of a community that already exists.

Founders, freelancers, designers, engineers, consultants, remote-company employees. Some live here year-round, some come for a few months, some are just passing through.
Today
We're based at Rua dos Barreiros 26A in the Zona Velha — Funchal's Old Town. It's a short walk from the cathedral, the cable car, the fish market, and every street that shows up in tourist photos. It's also, importantly, a real working hub: people come in to train, to work, to host events, and to collect their mail.
The community is roughly 300 active members — founders, freelancers, designers, engineers, consultants, and remote-company employees. Some live in Madeira year-round. Some come for a few months a year. Some are just passing through. All of them share the same physical address on their business cards if they want to.
Madeira Friends Enterprise, LDA is the Portuguese legal entity that operates the hub and the virtual office service commercially. It is the for-profit arm of the broader Madeira Friends brand, which also includes the non-profit Madeira Friends Association (community, events, blog) and two sister ventures: the Madeira Friends Hub itself and Madeira Remote, our coliving programme.
