FAQ

The virtual office, basics
- Is the Madeira Friends Hub a real physical address?
- Yes. Rua dos Barreiros 26A is an operating coworking hub in Funchal Old Town. It's where the Madeira Friends community works, trains, and hosts events. Real people sit there every business day and handle the mail.
- Can I use this address as my company's registered seat?
- Yes. The address is valid as the sede social (legal registered seat) of a Portuguese LDA, Unipessoal, or Sociedade Anónima. A PO box would not be valid — our hub address is.
- What happens when I receive mail?
- We receive it at the hub, scan the outside of the envelope, and email you a notification the same day. You can ask us to open and scan the contents, hold the mail for collection, or forward it physically — at cost, no markup.
- Can I also use the meeting room and hub space?
- Yes, on a fair-use basis. Drop by to work for a few hours, use the meeting room for calls, attend events. If you want dedicated desk or private-office access, we'll steer you to the right hubmadeira.com plan.
Company formation & legal
- Do I need to be in Madeira to incorporate a Portuguese company?
- No. The entire company formation can be done remotely — power of attorney to a lawyer, digital ID, bank account opening, and notary. Our virtual office address handles the registered-seat requirement. You can complete everything from abroad.
- What's the difference between an LDA and a Unipessoal?
- A Unipessoal is a single-member limited-liability company (one shareholder). An LDA (Sociedade por Quotas) has two or more shareholders. Tax and reporting obligations are very similar. Most solo founders choose Unipessoal; partnerships choose LDA.
- Will Portuguese banks accept a virtual office address for my company?
- Portuguese banks do accept our hub address as the company's sede social. They'll typically ask for the lease/address declaration we provide, plus your own ID and residency documentation. We help you assemble the package.
Pricing & billing
- What does €600+VAT/year include exactly?
- Your registered Funchal business address, unlimited mail reception, same-day email scan notifications, legal registered-seat usage for your Portuguese company, physical mail forwarding at cost, and hub access for meetings and work.
- Are there any hidden fees?
- No. €600+VAT per year is the full cost. No setup fee, no onboarding fee, no per-letter fee for standard mail handling. Physical forwarding is passed on at Portuguese postal cost with zero markup.
Getting started
- How fast can I start using the address?
- Typically 1–3 business days after we receive your signed mandate and ID. If you're mid-incorporation and time-critical, tell us on WhatsApp — we can usually move faster.
- What documents do you need from me?
- A government-issued ID (passport or EU national ID), proof of your residential address, and a signed mandate authorising us to receive mail on your company's behalf. For the registered seat, we also provide an address declaration for the Commercial Registry.
